Day-tripping.

About an hour and 1/2 away from Boston,  Kennebunkport, Maineis the ultimate Maine daytrip destination.  Pass right through Portsmouth without even stopping, Portsmouth is cool, but it’s New Hampshire and you want the Maine coast.  You want to feel like you’re going somewhere special.  Kennebunkport is where you can get it all, the quaint seaside village, the charming New England history, the Lobsters, the Scallops, the souvenir shops selling shot glasses and hoodies.  It’s all here.    And there is a hip, modern movement that’s happening here.  When in Kennebunkport I recommend:

http://www.daytripsociety.com/  Daytrip Society:“This boutique, dedicated to traveling and the outdoors, is where modern design meets nature. Located in the center of Dock Square in Kennebunkport, Maine, Daytrip Society offers modern gifts, gear & guides inspired by nature and travel”

F-8 Gallery: Brad Maushart’s modern photography can be found in his 200 year old renovated studio/barn/gallery.  Open, clean and contemporary, this is one spot not to miss.

ScalaWAGS: is a pet boutique where you can pick up a Nickle bag of catnip. If you know what I’m sayin.  Cat’s love it! Also, there are some other cool pet supplies, toys, and treats.  Just make your way past the glossy eyed cats that hang in front of the store and you can score something for your own pet.  http://www.scalawags.us

MINKA: a modern, Gallery-Boutique featuring art by Christopher Larochelle, and Jewelry designs by Michelle Rose.

Also,  Good eating at BANDALOOP: Bandaloop in Kennebunkport is known for our use of organic and local foods, many vegetarian and vegan options, and an array of appetizers, entrees, and sauces to choose from. Everything is created in house, from the organic bread and sauces straight through to the desserts. From flour and salt to free range chicken and all natural organic beef,  we demand only the highest quality organic ingredients”

And if you love it so much in K’Port, next time plan a weekend or a week and stay at Captain Fairfield, a boutique bed and breakfast with charming, young and knowledgable inn keepers, Loryn and Finn.  http://www.captainfairfield.com/
